Richard Petty Speedway

This adventure actually started out as something completely different than what it ended up becoming.  Initially I had been in contact with the powers that be at Disney to allow me to take my "Herbie" as well as some additional "Herbies" out on the track for a photo opportunity to promote the release of "Herbie Fully Loaded" on DVD the same week.  I had received confirmations from approximately 6 Herbie Owners that they were very interested if Disney "Green Lighted" the project.  Over a period of four months, I had no less than 20 conference calls, emails, letters and legal meetings with Disney and Buena Vista promotional reps from Florida to California.  each time the project was loved by all right up until the lawyers got involved regarding liability.  Ultimately the event was cancelled.  I had four months previous reserved time on the track which I now had to decide what to do with.  I could cancel it or... bring some friends along for the ride!!!!

Honestly I had no intentions of participating in this event because I had no real desire to take out a NASCAR.  Especially at the cost. This day had been set aside for a Herbie Promotion.  But after about 30 seconds on the track I was hooked!  If you ever get a chance to do this,...DO IT!  The "Richard Petty Experience" was worth every penny!  And it was a lot of pennies and I'll do it again!  As a matter of fact the next track run is already in the works.
